  • Hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Have an unrecalculated cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) in all undergraduate course work;
  • Demonstrate work or volunteer experience related to preparation for professional social work practice;
  • Provide three letters of recommendation completed on official forms. Recommendations should include: one academic source, one professional source, and one additional source from either of the above;
  • A professional statement reflecting how completion of the MSW will impact upon the student’s professional goals and objectives; and
  • A personal interview and/or additional information as requested by the program’s admission committee (optional).
  • Applicants with an unrecalculated undergraduate GPA of less than 3.0 must achieve a score at the 30th percentile or better on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), or achieve a score of 30th percentile or better on the verbal and analytical writing portions of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Applicants with unrecalculated GPA’s of 3.0 or greater are NOT required to submit MAT or GRE test scores.

    Regular Admission: Regular admission to the Master of Social Work program requires an unrecalculated GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

    Provisional Admission: Applicants with unrecalculated GPA’s of 2.7 to 2.9 will be admitted provisionally unless substantial evidence warrants regular admission.

Advanced Standing Program Admissions Requirements:
The Advanced Standing Program is accelerated for highly qualified graduates of CSWE-accredited BSW Programs. Admission to this program is granted to applicants with superior academic and professional social work qualifications.

Applicants seeking admission to the Advanced Standing Program must meet all the admissions requirements for regular admission in addition to the following:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program six (6) years prior to enrollment
  • Have at least a 3.25 overall unrecalculated grade point average in all undergraduate course work
  • Have A’s and B’s in all junior and senior level social work courses

Admission is based on evidence of a combination of personal qualities and values that are necessary for the professional practice of social work, including strong analytical and communication skills, a personal commitment to social justice and empowerment of individuals, and service to vulnerable and disenfranchised groups as evidenced through work experience, the personal statement, professional recommendations, and the admissions interview, if conducted.

Students are admitted to the MSW Program for enrollment in fall semester of each academic year. Students are not admitted for entry to the program in spring or summer semesters.
