May
I "test-out" of social work courses or receive credit for life
experience?
No. The Social Work Program at YSU does not provide any
credit towards course work or field work practice based on
life and/or previous work experience of a student.

I
took social work courses at another university. Will these classes transfer?
The Department of Social Work maintains very rigorous guidelines
regarding transfer courses in the social work content area. However, courses
taken and
successfully completed at another CSWE-accredited program will be considered
for credit in the BSW Program at Youngstown State University.

Who
is my academic advisor?
All applicants for the BSW Program are admitted
to the university as pre social work majors. Pre social work
majors are advised
by academic advisors in the BCHHS Dean’s Office (330)
941-1820. Once pre social work majors are formally admitted
to the BSW Program (approximately the end of the sophomore
year), they become “social work” majors and are
assigned to a faculty advisor in the Department of Social Work.
