YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY

B.S.A.S. in ALLIED HEALTH

Thank you for your interest in the B.S.A.S. in Allied Health program.  This program is designed as a multi-disciplinary baccalaureate degree completion program for students who have completed an associate degree in a health-related field.  The primary objectives of the Allied Health degree program are: 1) to provide graduates of health care programs the opportunity to gain the added expertise needed to expand their professional roles in the health care system; 2) to broaden the knowledge base in the health care professional’s discipline; and 3) to allow students the opportunity to build a curriculum to suit their personal, educational and/or employment goals.

YSU will provide 30 semester hours of allied health courses at your college.  These courses will be taught by YSU professors on site or they will be provided using distance learning technology.  All other necessary course work (general education requirements, a minor, and upper division requirements) are taken from your community college or another accredited institution and transferred into our program.  The student is only required to travel to the YSU campus one time–to present a directed research project during the last semester of YSU classes.  (Of course, we would also like you to attend the commencement ceremony on campus.)

You may begin to take YSU allied health classes prior to the completion of your associate degree, but you cannot graduate from our program until you have completed your A.A.S. in a health-related profession.  (Exceptions will be considered  for students with a clinical health care background.)  Your health care courses are considered part of your allied health major.

We will review all your completed courses and apply them to the curriculum as liberally as possible.  You will be provided with a copy of this evaluation so that you know what requirements you still need to work on at your community college.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have after you have reviewed the enclosed information.  For students who will be attending class primarily at Youngstown State University please contact Sal Sanders at 330.941.7157 or sasanders@ysu.edu.  If you will be attending classes primarily at Cuyahoga Community College, Lorain County Community College, North Central State College or plan to complete the degree primarily on-line, please contact Mary Ellen Munroe at 330/941-3280, or memunroe@ysu.edu.
