Welcome
to the
Department of
Human Ecology! |
Dr. Janice Elias, Ph.D.
Chair, Dept. of Human Ecology
|
If you have found your way here, you want to know why you should choose a major in our department or why you should choose YSU over a similar program at another university. I have one answer:
We have Programs PLUS!
Nine programs have their home in the Department of Human Ecology. Each are described in detail elsewhere on this website - just look to your left for "Major Programs" . . .PLUS in those academic programs, you will find "value added."
"What is that value added ?"
.Every program in the Department of Human Ecology contains a professional practice or fieldwork component in at least one term which gives our students an "edge" in the job market when they graduate.
.We have Partnerships with more than 100 facilities, organizations, and businesses that give our students opportunities to network and explore the job market long before graduation.
.We have highly qualified faculty with extensive practice in their areas of expertise who bring extra meaning to classes because of their real-life experience.
.The majority of the full time faculty in the department have doctoral degrees and other faculty members are in the process of completing doctoral programs in their respective fields of study.
.We have caring faculty who give students the individual attention often needed as they enter college and navigate through the academic process.
.We provide careful advisement to our students, incorporating a planning component to keep students "on track" as they progress through their program of study.
.There are many opportunities available for students to become involved in the community.
.Outstanding students will be nominated for membership in Kappa Omicron Nu, a national honorary society specifically for students enrolled in Human Ecology programs. This honorary provides its student members with opportunities for additional professional growth and development as a part of their undergraduate education.
We encourage prospective students to email or call the department and schedule a visit for a conference, a tour of the department or to sit in on a class. You can also contact individual faculty members via email or telephone to arrange an appointment to discuss your program of interest and how your career aspirations will fit into one the majors in the Department of Human Ecology.
Congratulations on choosing a career path in Human Ecology!
