Early Childhood Association
The Early Childhood Student Association includes PreKindergarten Associate Degree and Early Childhood Education students who have been meeting regularly during the Fall and Spring semesters. Under the leadership of the Spring, 2007 officers, Amanda Eskins, President; Amanda Sprankle, Vice-President; Rebecca Streb, Treasurer; and Kelly Long, Secretary; and with the guidance of the advisor, PreK Program Clinical Coordinator Dr. Carol Hawkins, the members participated in fund raisers, philanthropic endeavors, and a variety of educational learning experiences.
The officers organized a successful basket raffle, bake sale, and home interiors sale which netted the association enough money to cover the cost of registration, travel, and lodging to the Ohio AEYC (Association for the Education of Young Children) Conference in April, 2007. In addition, funds were donated to the Mahoning County Educational Service Center and Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partners organizations to help off-set the cost of diapers and formula for infants and toddlers in need. Furthermore, members of the association donated their time to be room monitors at the local Tru-Mah-Col AEYC Institute in February, 2007.
The Early Childhood Student Association members are hoping to make a difference in the Mahoning Valley. By being active in the student association, they are learning how they can enrich their lives and grow as professionals in the field of Early Childhood Education.
